A hero is a special, powerful unit that can be employed as the governor of a city, the general of an army, or as a spy in an enemy city. Unlike regular units, heroes can unlock skills when they level up. They also have access to unique capacities that can boost the combat performance of their entire army, or the economic output of their governed city.
Mechanics
Each faction starts with a single hero, and additional heroes can be hired from the Marketplace once Mercenary Market is researched. There are also a few Quests that when completed, will cause a hero to join the faction. See Heroes/Comparison Table and Marketplace#Heroes for more details about the hero pool.
Unlike other units, heroes do not die when their
Life is reduced to 0 in combat but will revive if any unit in the army survives. If the entire army is destroyed, the hero will be wounded for a number of turns and cannot be deployed again until they recover. Wounded heroes may also be healed by spending
Dust.
When assigned to a role, a hero may not be re-assigned for 5
turns. Some skills can reduce this cooldown.
Factions and Classes
Almost all heroes of the same faction have the same unit class (
/
/
/
/
) and thus share the same class and faction skills:
The only exception is the
Mezari, who have two
Ranged heroes (Avara Lasmak, Commander Irjsko Lasmak), and one
Infantry hero (Sable Deceiver Bayari Kulaa), all of whom have the
Vaulters skill tree.
