A hero can unlock one skill per level, starting at level 2.

Mechanics

Each hero has three skill trees: a Common skill tree available to all heroes, one Class-specific skill tree, and one Faction-specific skill tree. For the most part, heroes of the same faction all belong to the same unit class.

Skills are categorised as Army, City, Spy, or Any skills depending on whether they grant bonuses to combat attributes, economic output, espionage, or otherwise. Class-specific skills are all Army (combat) skills. Faction-specific skills are commonly City (economic) skills but may vary depending on the faction; for example, some Morgawr Morgawr skills grant bonuses to naval combat. Common skills belong to multiple different categories.

Classes and Factions

Almost all heroes of the same faction have the same unit class (Infantry/Cavalry/Flying/Ranged/Support) and thus share the same class and faction skills:

The only exception is the Mezari Mezari, who have two Ranged Ranged heroes (Avara Lasmak, Commander Irjsko Lasmak), and one Infantry Infantry hero (Sable Deceiver Bayari Kulaa), all of whom have the Vaulters Vaulters skill tree.

ELCP makes the following changes to the Drakken skill tree:

  • Friendly Banner is available earlier on Level 2 (when it is actually useful).
  • Raptors Eye moved to Level 3 and connects to Narrative Master and Defender in order to provide a better path towards Inspirational Leader.
  • Cultural Ambassador directly connects to Narrative Master, Cold Operator and Battlesaur, offering alternative skill paths for generals and governors.
