Strategic Resources
Strategic Resources are used to create weapons, armor and accessories that increase the effectiveness of heroes and units, and are also required to create advanced
City Improvements and
Expansions.
Mechanics
There are three tiers of strategic resources, revealed in
Eras I, III, and IV. These eras also contain technologies that enable an empire extract to those revealed resources.
Strategic resources may also be purchased from the Marketplace, unlocked by Imperial Coinage in Era II, without the necessary era or extractor technology.
Some Naval Facilities generate strategic resources. These are revealed once any empire reaches eras I, III, or IV, and do not require any extractor technology.
A strategic resource deposit adds an additional +1
Science to the tile's yield.
Vaulters can use a single strategic resource as a "Holy Resource", consuming units of the resource in exchange for an empire-wide bonus, similar to
Luxury Resources.
